| Cell death by apoptosis is the basic cellular phenomenon whereby nucleated cells are removed from living tissues. It mediates the physiological deletion of cells occurring during embrional development and tissue homeostasis. Alterations of the cell death program play an important role in the pathogenesis of the most important human diseases, including cancer, AIDS and neurodegenerative diseases. Our research group is interested in understanding the molecular mechanisms controlling apoptosis both in physiological and pathological contexts.
