PhD in Economics and Institutions

The aim of the program is to provide students with the skills necessary to carry out research activities in the sphere of modern economics. In addition, the program seeks to provide students with adequate training for successful careers in universities, research centers and international institutions. Particular emphasis will be placed on the foundations of economic theory, quantitative methods and the economic analysis of institutions.

The program structure includes, 3 semesters of in-class courses, plus 1 or 2 years in order to complete a doctoral dissertation.
Courses are taught by professors with significant teaching experience and a strong research record.
International links with European and non-European universities provide exchange programs for students and professors.
Students are awarded the Ph.D. degree after having passed all exams and successfully defending their dissertation.
The program seeks to enroll highly qualified students. A maximum of 10 to 15 students will be admitted each year.
At the end of their second year students will have to present a detailed dissertation proposal.
Second-year students will also be asked to attend the Economic seminars organized at CEIS Tor Vergata.
Students in their third year will have to present a paper at a public seminar at the end of the first semester and a draft of their dissertation by the end of the year.
Students will be encouraged and supported if they need to do part of their research abroad in other reputable academic institutions.
While students are expected to complete their dissertation within their third year, special permission can be requested to delay submission of their doctoral dissertation.
