CNR-UNESCO Workshop
"Microbial escape mechanisms and new therapies for AIDS and Tuberculosis",
Ischia, Italy 18 -20 April 1999
The Conference, besides UVO-ROSTE, was organised and supported by the
International Centre for AIDS and other Emerging & Re-emerging Infections
IRCCS "L.Spallanzani", National Research Council (CNR), World Foundation
for AIDS Research and Prevention, Istituto Superiore di Sanità, Italy
the University of Naples Federico II, The Unit for Research, Diagnosis
and Prevention of Tuberculosis A.O Monaldi, Naples and the Regione Campania.This
meeting was localy organised by the Unit for Research and Diagnosis of
Tuberculosis (Monaldi Hospital, Naples). Participants invited to this
meeting consisted in 50 experts from France, Italy, Germany, Russia, UK,
USA, Spain, the Netherlands, and Switzerland.
4th International Workshop on HIV, Cells of Macrophage Lineage, and
other Reservoirs.
1-4 December, 1999 Villa Pitiana Domini, Florence, Italy
The meeting was held with the UNESCO sponsorship and organised by Prof.
C. F. Perno (University of Rome "TorVergata").
The program of this workshop focused on the issue of reservoirs of HIV,
particularly relevant in view of the potential eradication of the virus
from the body. Other than this, viral dynamics in macrophages and other
reservoirs, infection of macrophages of the central nervous system, immunological
modifications related to disfunction of HIV-infected macrophages, dual
infection of macrophages by HIV and other pathogens, inhibition of virus
replication in macrophages and other reservoirs of HIV, were the major
topics covered by the workshop.
