The UNESCO Venice Office, Regional Office for Science and Technology for Europe (UVO-ROSTE), the World Foundation for AIDS Research and Prevention, the National Research Council (CNR) and the University of Rome “Tor Vergata” agree to continue their efforts in the starting up of initiatives and/or projects in the framework of a UNESCO Network for Cooperation on AIDS and Emerging Infections in the Mediterranean Area.
The ICAERI Centre at the National Institute for Infectious Diseases “L. Spallanzani” of Rome will contribute to the creation of the European Centre for communicable diseases in the Mediterranean area in favour of activities promoted or supported by UVO-ROSTE in the framework of the UNESCO Network for Cooperation on AIDS and Emerging Infections. The “L. Spallanzani” Institute is considered the most suitable place for this initiative, regarding previous experiences in surveillance and control of communicable diseases in several countries under the co-ordination of WHO and other international agencies.
ICAERI is also parteciping to the UNESCO Networks “Main against virus” and “Main against emerging diseases”.
