PREAMBLE

This report describes activities carried out by the International Centre on AIDS and Emerging & Re-emerging Infections (ICAERI) at the National Institute for Infectious Diseases “Lazzaro Spallanzani” in Rome, including the CNR-UNESCO program on AIDS research and prevention.
This document describes two distinct activities. First, the ICAERI projects, services, personnel training, fellowships, scientific meetings and publications are specified.
Second, the CNR-UNESCO collaborative projects, including the exchange of scientific personnel, the UNESCO Chair in Interdisciplinary Biotechnology at the University of Rome Tor Vergata, and their role in setting up the research laboratory and the documentation service on AIDS & other emerging infections at the “Spallanzani” Institute are described.
We hope that this report might be informative and helpful for both internal and external ICAERI members, as well as for the scientific community in general.
