1. Research Laboratory.
The Laboratory represents the main operative structure in the research field carrying out the scientific projects endorsed by the International Scientific Committee. The Laboratory has been set up and equipped by the “L. Spallanzani” Institute, and additional instruments have been supplied by UNESCO and by the University of Rome “Tor Vergata”. ICAERI disposes of a fully equipped laboratory for cell culture and molecular biology. Common facilities include a level “P3/P4” biohazard laboratory for handling dangerous pathogens and a cell cloning unit. The Laboratory staff is constituted by personnel from the “L. Spallanzani” Institute, by University’s scientists, and by fellowship-holders from UNESCO and from the “Istituto Superiore di Sanità”.
The ICAERI Laboratory’s work will integrate the Laboratories and Clinical Divisions of the “L. Spallanzani” Institute by the set-up of advanced technical services for training and basic research development, including flow cytometry, image analysis, molecular modelling, nucleotide sequencing and peptide synthesis.
2. Documentation and Scientific Communication Service.
This Service has the task to collect and classify scientific materials produced by UNESCO and other national and international agencies on AIDS and other infectious diseases. Its key objective is to disseminate the scientific work of ICAERI by organising scientific meetings and expositions, supporting the data network and the UNESCO web page .
3. Administrative Unit
The Unit provides assistance to the UNESCO Venice Office and to the Director of ICAERI in what regards implementation and execution of the projects' activities, and contacts with national and international institutions.
